I managed to receive the SSTV signal from the ISS from it’s passed over the UK on the 18th and 20th of December 2014.

We held a foundation licence course over the weekend of the 15th and 16th of November, with the exam on the 22nd.
I’m happy to say that 10 out of the 11 students passed with flying colours.
The students and instructors are shown below. I’m the one on the right of the picture.
Spent some time at Panshanger airfield at the weekend, and was taken up in a Piper Cherokee, 2 seater aircraft. It was great fun, but was a little windy which meant a slightly bumpy ride. The pilot even let me take the controls for a while.
2 trips this last month.
Spent a weekend in Albufeira in Portugal earlier in June.
The spent the last 8 days of June in Florida.
This consisted of 3 days in Orlando, including a day at Disney’s magic kingdom.
Then 4 days in Lauderdale by the Sea, which is next to Fort Lauderdale. We were the only people at this small hotel very close to the beach. We were the only one’s at the hotel so had the place and the pool to ourselves.
We spend at day at the Everglades safari park, which mainly involved taking an airboat ride and looking at some Aligators.
We finally drove down to Miami for 1 night and stayed at the Ritz Carlton. Very posh hotel, with it’s own private part of the beach.
Finally, a long drive back to Orlando to drop the rental car off, and back to blighty Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy.
With the advent of infrastructure as a service, suddenly anyone can soon up a VM. Is easy to forget why you employ those people that take care of your on premises kit, and assume everything in the cloud is rosy. It didn’t turn out that way for the guys at codespaces, who are now out of business. Interesting article here.
Had some fun at the weekend. A few of us from the radio club had a go at the practical wireless 144MHz QRP contest from Epsom Downs. Managed to work 61 stations, including Scotland and Ireland. This was good practice for the ssb field day in September. Had a few folks staring out of the windows from passing cars wondering what we were doing.
I bought a hands free kit for my Yaesu FT7800 in my Volvo.
Very simple to install, it just plugs into the Microphone socket and replaces the fist mic.
It has a Microphone which clips on to the sun visor, and a ptt swtich, which I’ve cable tied to the gear stick.
It’s surprising just how much easier driving is with both hands while operating the radio..
